My cuppycakes

I am now the mother of a 1-year-old!  Happy birthday my little J-bird!  I cannot believe how fast this year has flown by.  It seems like just yesterday I was looking at that little baby face on ultrasound.  She took her first steps yesterday, too.  I'm thinking I can't afford to blink or I might miss something!

We had put the shopping off until the last minute for her party unfortunately, and we had to go get everything today.  I really don't like Wal-Mart I have decided.  I think there is some sort of time warp you have to pass through to go into the store, because when you leave it never fails that you have lost a couple of hours of your life!  This trip was no different.

I decided I wanted to try something different for the cupcakes for the party, so I pulled up my Pinterest and looked up the Jello Tie Dye Fruity Cupcake recipe.  Super easy recipe to follow.  I was so excited to let my boys try them tonight because I thought it sounded so good.  Note to self, your boys are picky, and they are not a good judge of what tastes good.  So, the boys were not thrilled with it I could tell, but were reluctant to say they did not like them because they didn't want to hurt my feelings.  I think the problem was the lime.  I love key lime pie and I thought they were good and so did my husband.

You make the cake batter just like normal, and then you divide it into three bowls and add 3 different flavors of Jell-O mix.

Then you add a spoonful of each into 24 cupcake liners and bake.

And once cooled completely you pipe on your white icing.  This is what my finished results looked My little J-bird's party is in T-minus one day now, so today was all about the clean.  Five people can really go through some laundry!  Folding, and folding, and folding seems neverending, especially when you are on a time limit.  Someone tell me why having the in-laws over two days before a birthday party was a good idea? It all turned out okay, though.  Two minutes after my niece and nephew hit the door my semi-straightened house was a war zone of toys again, so the kids had fun.  We all went outside after dinner, and it gave me a chance to play with Instagram some more since my niece and nephew are so darn cute and the weather was nice.

The kids picked some of my hubby's flowers.  Don't tell him.  He loves working in his little "garden."

J-bird's first birthday is fast approaching (Friday) and her party is on Saturday.  I have had her outfit planned for a good while now, but it is just slow going some times around here with any of my crafting, sewing or otherwise.  This morning I decided I had to nail the outfit, because I still have to clean house and bake a cake and cupcakes, etc., in preparation.  I just made my #1 shirt using the Silhouette appliques I made in the previous post, and I made a twirly girl skirt from the book, Little Girls Big Style  I just downsized the 2T pattern size down a half inch to get the size I needed and left off the bottom tier to make it shorter for easier crawling in the floor birthday play time. :)  This is what I got...

The shirt itself must've been made for giant babies, though because it is a little too long for my taste even for my tall skinny little monkey.  If I have time I will be hemming it despite the fact that I really despise hemming jersey cotton!
